My Story
Hi! I’m Krystle, but my friends refer to me as Mary Poppins!
I live in Toronto, Ontario Canada with my husband. I have always loved working with babies and children from the time I was quite young. Being the oldest grandchild I had a lot of experience with babies as each of my cousins were born. At age 12, I took it upon myself to always plan a day of fun activities and crafts for my younger cousins, as they were now a bit older too. The adults loved this, as I kept the kids entertained all day and the parents were free to socialize with each other. So it was no surprise when I decided to become an Early Childhood Educator.
After a 2 year program at Centennial College, I graduated with my degree in Early Childhood Education in 2005. I worked in various day care centres until 2008 when my contract ended and there was no openings in local day cares so I dove into nannying. I fell in love with nannying as I enjoyed the freedom of going on fun outings with children and most importantly, giving the best one-on-one care to children. I have stuck with nannying since then, and throughout these past 14 years of being a nanny I have learned so much about paediatric sleep, safe sleep, car seat safety, child safety, and tested out so many different baby products and have discovered which ones are must haves and which ones are a waste of money. I have spent countless hours doing research on a wide range of baby and child information as I encountered various developmentally appropriate issues and ways to deal with them.
One thing I always have been great at is having a natural knack to getting babies and toddlers to sleep. So often I would have parents ask me how on earth I got their child to sleep when it's always a battle with them and many have called me a baby whisperer. I have always been great at reading sleepy cues and just knew how to naturally set up the baby's schedule. I stumbled upon sleep consulting when one family I worked for was having a very hard time getting their toddler to nap. She would need to be fed to sleep and would wake up 20-40 minutes later. After some research I realized she was so use to being fed to sleep that she had no clue how to independently link her sleep cycles. This poor baby was chronically overtired and it affected her attention span on activities and her mood. I started to implement some techniques I read about and within a few days I was able to slowly lengthen her naps allowing her to get sufficient day time sleep. It was while I was researching that I stumbled upon sleep consulting and I immediately knew I wanted to become a certified sleep consultant, not just to be able to have my own business and help tired parents, but to offer this valuable skill for future families I nanny for. I completed my certification for sleep consulting and newborn sleep with The Institute of Pediatric Sleep and Parenting in March 2022 and am excited to start this journey!
In September 2022 I also became a Certified Child Passenger Safety Technician. In 2023 I upgraded my skills for working with newborn sleep by completing the Newborn Sleep Specialist course with the Institute of Pediatric Sleep and Parenting.
In 2024 I decided to further my education to be able to provide more support and services to parents. Through the Institute of Pediatric Sleep and Parenting, I became certified in Special Needs Sleep and Baby Sign Language Education.
